Sprinklers

As part of the plans to improve the growth of our tiny forest we finally decided a sprinkler system was needed. This in addition to the one line drip system in the tree lines.

The sprinklers water the full area, including the areas between the tree lines. This in-between area we covered with hay, to protect the dried out soil from the sun, keep the humidity in and increase and feed the soil life.

In the autumn we plan a shallow disturbance with a subsoiler followed by seeding with a mix to create bio-mass in between the lines. It for sure will be a challenge to find a mix that generates photo-synthesis throughout the year.

Obviously the sprinkler system required a lot of planning. We needed to experiment with how many sprinklers our waterpump could support in one go, we had to figure out the diameter of the water circle and when that was determined, we could draw a map with the possible location of each sprinkler.

All this started in May and we were very fortunate Pieter put all his skills in the mix to execute the installation according to the plan.

Today everything is working!

We now have three groups of each five sprinklers. On average each sprinkler blows a radius of 8-9 meters.

Below the layout with all 15 sprinklers covering a large part of the land.
