Since a few weeks our nightly cameras register a new animal. About a week ago Gijs even saw it live while wandering in the field early in the evening. It seemed a small dog with a strange tail.

Eventually we looked up possible local wildlife and stumbled upon the Red Fox! This photo matches perfectly the animal seen!

So we have foxes on our land! Yes, multiple, because we have also have a video showing two of them chasing each other.

As to be expected in a rural environment we sometimes see mice and even rats. Having a cat(s) and / or dog(s) could solve this, but would also increase our cognitive load because animals need daily care and attention. So what if we want to leave for some days or weeks? And what if those animals do not do there job well?

So ideally we have animals that take care of themselves while hunting all mice and rats. It seems these animals found us!
